Workers on a subway construction project in the northern Greek city of Thessaloniki last week discovered a 2,300-year-old grave laden with golden jewelry, including this gold wreath pictured with two ancient clay pots. The grave contained remains of a female skeleton, traces of her wooden coffin, four gold wreaths and gold earrings in the shape of dogs’ heads. Also found were a bronze mirror, bronze vase and six clay pots.
